Whimsy and Wonder: Toledo Boy Scouts Raise the Flag at Elks Campground

By the Toledo Tribune

On April 18th, Toledo’s Scout Troop 30 of the Boy Scouts of America proudly donated and raised a United States flag at the Toledo Elks Lodge 1664 campground, just outside of Siletz. Under the guidance of Scoutmaster Amy Lynn, the troop held a brief ceremony honoring the flag and the values it represents. It was a meaningful moment of civic pride, community partnership, and patriotism.

The Toledo Elks Lodge 1664, a fraternal organization dedicated to charity, justice, brotherly love, and fidelity, welcomed the Scouts and expressed appreciation for their ongoing community involvement. The Elks are longtime supporters of youth programs and hosted the Oregon Boy Scouts Jamboree at the campground last year—an event they hope to repeat in the coming seasons.

Nestled among the trees just outside Siletz, the Elks campground isn’t just for Scouting events. It’s available for public rental and has become a favorite spot for company picnics, birthday parties, weddings, and family reunions. To learn more or book the venue, contact camp host Dorothy Handley at (541) 444-2733.

Troop 30 continues its tradition of service and leadership development right here in Toledo. Led by Scoutmaster Amy Lynn, the troop meets every other Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall. Families interested in joining or learning more can text Amy (541) 272-0481 or email the troop at bsatoledotroop30@gmail.com
